A-Rod truly is A-Fraud

I don't know if anyone else caught A-Rod's press conference yesterday but it had to have been the biggest crock of crap I've ever seen. The man read off of a piece of paper for crying out loud! About the only thing he had going for him was the fact that he didn't look Orange this time...Watch this in case you missed it:

Like I said the guy read off of a piece of paper, which was probably prepared by his crisis management specialist. And there weren't even follow-up questions allowed. WHAT A JOKE!

A-Roid constantly mentions that he was so young and naive and etc. This is such a joke. Does he really expect us to believe that he let his cousin inject him with something he didn't even know what it was!? Injecting himself with a mystery substance that he didn't know the effects it would have or even how exactly to use it? He's stupid, but not that stupid. I also really liked how he said the reason why he didn't disclose on his cousin right away was that he first called him and talked about it. Yeah that's called deciding on the story they were going to tell. Just seems wrong to me.

And how about that address to his teammates? That horrendous 37 second pause was nearly unbearable. I would almost guarantee that he practiced that act in front of the mirror for the last couple days. This man is the T.O. of Major League Baseball. He wants us to judge his legacy from this day forward. All i have to say is good luck with that because I am not impressed and I don't think that many people bought into what A-Roid said in the interview.

How would Ed Hochuli Rule this One?

So I don't know if anyone else has seen this but Kyle Orton's neckbeard is not very good at spiking a football. But I must draw the comparison....was his arm moving forward or not? What's the ruling Ed? Compare and contrast...

Tom Emanski Who?

I don't know if you guys remember but ESPN used to run commercials for "Tom Emanski's Instructional videos". They were endorsed by Fred "Crime Dog" McGriff and they boasted having produced BACK-To-BACK-To-BACK AAU National Champions. The kids were like robots who could throw it into a side-tipped 5-gallon bucket from deep center.

Well this is a absolutely HILARIOUS video spoof on the Tom Emanski videos. If you know what I'm talking about I would strongly recommend watching the whole thing!

Best catch ever? I think so

Did you see this catch by Morgan State WR Edwin Baptiste last Saturday? This has to be the best catch ever; I have no idea how he pulled it off. Check it out...

Marquese Walker would beat me 1-on-1

So this kid is the "top kindergarten basketball prospect in the world". For whatever that's worth he looks pretty good to me. Here's a video of him dribbling kickballs at age 2.

And here is a freestyle show for the fans culminating in a sick blindfolded layup.

This video is a collection of game clips, Marquese with NBA and college superstars, and Marquese's halftime show for the Grizzlies last year.

Minor League Brawl Takes it Too Far

I'm sure most of you have seen the video on ESPN by now but in case you've been working too much or are a hermit or something, here it is. It happened yesterday between the Peoria Chiefs and the Dayton Dragons. This was a brawl that saw 15 players ejected, both managers ejected, and one player ARRESTED!

At one point Peoria pitcher Julio Castillo fires a baseball toward the dugout, hitting a fan in the stands instead and hospitalizing him with one of the worst acts we've ever seen on a baseball field. Castillo, a 20-year-old from the Dominican Republic, is scheduled to be arraigned on charges of felonious assault today. This is truly unforgivable. I don't care what you think or were thinking. You do not do anything like that that could potentially injure a fan, let alone hospitalize them seriously. Even if you don't hit the fan, why the hell would you chose to throw a baseball as hard as you can into the opposing team's dugout!? That's cowardice and retarded. You are a goon and an idiot and you'll probably never get to play again. I think at this point the players and managers went too far. As much as I love a good throwdown, I hate to see something like this.

WNBA Brawl at The Palace

Well, it isn't exactly what I had in mind for TSF's 400th post, nor is it even close to the best brawl that we've seen go down in The Palace, but it cannot go unnoticed.

The skirmish started moments after Parker and Detroit’s Cheryl Ford had to be separated after Ford fouled Parker.

On the next possession, Parker got tangled up with Detroit’s Plenette Pierson and fell to the ground. As she was getting up, Pierson intentionally ran into her, setting off the melee.
Parker threw a punch at Pierson before being tackled by Detroit’s Deanna Nolan. Players and coaches from both teams joined in, and Mahorn knocked Lisa Leslie to the court at one point.

Interestingly enough Rick Mahorn was also involved in the 2004 Pistons-Pacers brawl while working as a Detroit broadcaster, going into the crowd to try to pull Ron Artest away from fans. Sources all seem to say that Mahorn was trying to play peacemaker and protect players from both sides. DeLisha Milton-Jones shoved and punched Mahorn after the incident with Leslie, and was ejected, along with Mahorn, Parker and Pierson. Nolan and Shannon Bobbitt received technicals. Ford sprained her right knee while trying to restrain Pierson, and left the floor in a wheelchair. Her status is unknown.

Do these names mean anything to me or probably any of you? NO. But I figured that The Sports Flow is gunna need a WNBA post sooner or later and when is there going to be a better time? So happy 400th post to TSF and please enjoy the pathetic "brawl" that actually landed one player in a wheelchair. Fairly amusing for a tuesday night I'd say.

Josh Hamilton is the Real Home Run King!

Justin Morneau is the 2008 State Farm Home Run Derby Champion, but clearly Josh Hamilton is your Home Run King. I mean honestly, I could hardly believe some of these shots he was launching as I watched. He even flirted with the little gap out in right-center where you can see the subway! I mean you can play the thing to win it, or you can put on a show for the fans. Josh Hamilton didn't win. His performance lacked the strategy to win given the rules of the derby. However, he put on an unimaginable, record-setting show for the fans. I'll take that any day.

Hamilton's comeback story is even better. The guy has come back from rock bottom. I can't even fathom what he's done. It's the kind of stuff that movies are made of. TSF tips it's hat to him. We consider him the real Home Run Derby Champ!

Jose Canseco Amateur Boxing Ass-Kicking

I don't know if anybody has seen this but I think it's definately worth a minute of your time. In case you haven't heard Jose Canseco "celebrity" boxed former Philadelphia Eagles return man Vai Sikahema and got his shit sent in the first round. As someone who doesn't care for Canseco at all I take much pleasure in this. The only wish I could have would be for them to lose the bulky headgear so we could see Jose's steroid-inflated head go rolling when he hits the mat. I can't wait to see what new sport Jose tries and fails at next.... what a tool.

ND Baseball Prospect: Cole Frenzel

The number 94 top high school baseball prospect of 2009 by Baseball America is Cole Frenzel of Dickinson, ND. I found this video on a blog thanks to Dickinson Sports Writer Dustin Monke.

We all know ND is not much of a baseball state and to be regarded as a top 100 prospect in the nation is a big deal. Frenzel is a great all-around baseball player. I personally played against him in my 3 years of varsity baseball and 1 outta my 2 years of JV ball. He is the real deal as he launched HR after HR after triple against my team. He is currently being looked at by Nebraska, Kansas, Oregon St., and Virginia to name a few schools.

I'm not trying to pimp the kid in anyway, but I just wanted to give North Dakota some recognition it deserves.

Hockey and a Reunion on tap for the Weekend

This weekend TSF will be experiencing a reunion on the campus of the Universiy of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. Here we will be celebrating a belated 1 year anniversary/birthday of the blog that you know and love.

Also, this weekend I will be spending considerable time at the Ralph Engelstadt Arena watching both the North Dakota State Hockey Tournament and my University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux hockey team riding the nation's longest unbeaten streak against the Bemidji State Beavers. The Sioux are ranked #2 in the nation (NCAA D1) and look to remain the hottest team in the land and extend their unbeaten streak from 11 games to 13 with a sweep this weekend. It's going to be a fun-filled hockey weekend.

here are some UND Fighting Sioux Hockey videos for you to feast your eyes on.

Top 5 Games of 2007

After doing some deep thinking, here's The Sports Flow's Top 5 game of 2007.

5. Ohio St. vs. Xavier- 2nd Round- NCAA Tournament
I specifically remember watching this game with some buddies and it was one hell of a game. It was back and forth, superstar playmaking game, with the the top players on each team stepping up big time. The best of the 2007 NCAA Tournament in my opinion and one of the best of 2007. It looked like Xavier was going to pull away late in the 2nd half, but Mike Conley Jr. and Ron Lewis had something else in mind...

Just ignore the first part, after about 20 seconds it will show the highlights.

4. Michigan vs. Appalachian St.
FCS Powerhouse Appalachian St. shocks the world with their upset over 5th ranked Michigan. This was a great Saturday in college football history and might be the biggest upset ever in college football.

3. Patriots vs. Colts- 2007 AFC Championship
Comeback for the Super Bowl champion Colts. Just a hard-fought, great all-around football game.

2. Oklahoma St. vs. Texas- College Basketball Game
One of the greatest game I have ever seen. 3 OT game, back and forth with clutch plays and shots. Sorry couldn't find any video highlights of this game. So here's an article from MSNBC Sports:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16663049/

1. Boise St. vs. Oklahoma- 2007 Fiesta Bowl
Who would have thought otherwise? Undisputed number one game...

There you have it our Top 5 games of 2007. Thoughts? Did we miss any games?

Play of the Year?

Gateway High laterals it's way to force overtime vs. Central Catholic in the Pennsylvania AAAA Football Championship. Central Catholic ended up winning but this is still one heck of a play. Can you say play of the year?

TSF Heisman Watch

This has been anything but the standard Heisman Race. I'd like to weigh in quickly with what has become increasingly obvious to me over the last few weeks.

Coming into the week I really liked Dennis Dixon to win. I even watched this commercial profusely taking great entertainment from it:

With my top candidate Dennis Dixon out of contention, how many legitimate players are out there that can satisfy that general voter urge to choose a contender from a highly-ranked squad? Here's what I see:
I'm reluctant to say it but i see Time Tebow as the front-runner to win the Heisman right now...even with 3 losses! In the midst of a roller-coaster ride of a season I think voters are just starting to warm up to the idea of the underclassman winning it with 3 losses. Tebow is set to go down with Archie Griffin in Heisman lore. That's good for Tebow, good for the Heisman and good for college football. If he wins I don't think that automatically means that we'll start seeing underclassmen win it every year so i don't have a problem with it.

Look at the stats he is the first EVER 20/20 man in NCAA Football history and is on pace for over 3,000 passing yards and 850 rushing yards and a combined 50 touchdowns. Because of the sheer weight of his numbers, name recognition, team-profile, television exposure and personality, he is the overwhelming favorite for this year's Heisman right now.

In my opinion if anyone is going to beat him it will be Chase Daniel from Mizzou. Although he's an outside shot right now I feel like he is in the best position to make a run at the Heisman. Daniel is on pace for the following stats: 3,916 passing yards, 33 touchdown passes, 69 per cent completions, 10 interceptions, 300 rushing yards, 5 touchdowns. Here's what I see as necessary for him to win it:
1. Daniel has a big game and Missouri beats Kansas.
2. Daniel has a big game and Missouri beats Oklahoma.
3. Missouri wins berth in BCS title game.
4. Tebow flops as Florida loses to FSU would cement it.

If I had to pick a third candidate I would pick Darren McFadden.
Overall this is what I see:
1. Tim Tebow
2. Chase Daniel
3. Darren McFadden

What's your Heisman race look like right now?

Happy Youtube Tuesday!

You know the drill!

ESPN U Announcer for Iowa vs. N. Illinois

Very funny. I highly recommend it.

NDSU Football- Will You Be There?
I was there for that game and it was the best college football game I've ever been to. Rhett Bomar was the real deal for Sam Houston St. and the comeback by NDSU had me going absolutely crazy in the stands.

I love Taco Bell
Even this doesn't quite do Taco Bell Justince. PS- pay close attentioin to the song and the words throughout.

Absolutely Never Gets Old
I get goosebumps everytime I hear, "He did it! He did it! Flutie did it!" So watch it and be inspired.

TSF's Top College Football Announcers (Current)

Well, it's still July, one of the most boring months of the year when it comes to sports. As you can see, I really love college football. There are some great and entertaining college football announcers out there and I would like to share with you some of my favorites. Also, feel free to drop a comment and leave some insight on some of your favorites.

Best of the Best: Play-By-Play Announcers

1. Ron Franklin
Just listening to him call a game on ESPN Saturday nights sends chills down my spine! He has that voice, with just the touch of accent to make him real and not put-on. Just watch for yourself.

2. Brent Musberger
A lot of people like this guy and a lot of people don't. I think he has a very entertaining voice, plus he really gives some great insight and analysis as well. I have really enjoyed him calling games on ABC ever since I started watching college football back when I was just an infant. Just listening to this call...

3. Brad Nessler

Very entertaining voice as well and gives great analysis too. Always knows what to say and he gets you excited for the big game with his phrases. He usually sticks to the action, which is a very good thing. If you know what I mean it's like him and the big games just click.

4. Mike Patrick
Just a great entertaining voice, I love his calls and quirks. He is always smooth and crisp with his play calling and keeps you entertained with his comments as well.

I hate to play this video, but it was the best one I could find of Mike Patrick. Listen in...

5. Keith Jackson

Just a great voice, he's been around for many years and has called more big games than just about anybody else. His voice just fits in well with the atmosphere of a championship game.

Who are your favorites? I will be back with another post tomorrow on TSF's "Top College Football Analysts".

Some Summer Links and Videos

I'm leaving tomorrow after work to go up to UND to register for next year so I won't be back to post until Wed. night. Until then Stefan will be holding down the fort with posts on Mon. and Tue. Until then I will attempt to hold you over. I couldn't really decide if I wanted to post links or videos so with gas still over $3.00 I thought it best to make it a hybrid.

Johnnie Morton Getting His Ass Kicked
Probably should have tried to play in the league a few more years instead of wasting his time for this.

I Kind of Want to Meet This Kid
I absolutely love the Dirk-a-licious bit. I always laugh when he says "Apples red delicious" and I'm not really sure why. Also the jabs he takes at Kobe are pretty good.
