Golden Gophers Win WCHA Title and a #1 seed
Much to my dismay the Minnesota Golden Gophers defeated the UND Fighting Sioux last night in Overtime. It was a really great game and Blake Wheeler's game-winning goal was a really great goal. Here is the game-winning goal from Saturday Night. I can't bear to watch...but you should!
With the victory the Golden Gophers solidified a #1 seed in the NCAA Frozen Four Tournament, and the Fighting Sioux a 3-seed in the same region. Although my picks for the tournament don't come out until Tuesday I can tell you right now that there will most likely be a rematch, and it should be a dandy. Every time these two teams have played this year it has been a spectacular game and nearly a coin-flip. Look for the same. It really is a shame that they are in the same region, because it would be so much fun to see these two teams play in the Frozen Four or even in the Championship!
The NCAA Frozen Four Tournament starts on 3/23.
Stay tuned for my picks on 3/20. and.........GO SIOUX

yeah UND wasn't gonna be a 1 seed no matter what
I hate to say it, but that was a really sweet (albeit lucky) goal... great effort there.
You're probably right stephen a. They're slow start is pretty much the reason why they are where they are. But if they were WCHA Champs they would be for sure a 2 would would definately be considered for a 1-seed.
actually the computers didn't have them as a 1 no matter what. the best they could have done was the top 2 seed. and that last goal to me indicates the exact reason why theyre a better team. Wheeler just outmuscled Lee to the puck and Lee couldn't do anything about it really. And Lamoreux has to save that.
I actually talked to T. Chorney in accounting class today... told me they were hoping for another shot at the Gophers... that would definitely be interesting.
I think UND will beat the gophers if they both win their first round games. I think minnesota kinda has the attitude that they can put on the M sweater and flip the switch whenever they want. They seem to have a fairly good blueprint now for how to beat the sioux but hopefully the sioux will show up during tournament time like they always do
I'm working on my predictions for the Tournament and that is by far the hardest game for me to pick. My head says Minnesota in a nail-biter but my heart says UND in the same. I think it is going to be a great game regardless and you can almost flip a coin.
As previously stated it really is too bad that they couldn't have been in different brackets so that they could meet in the Frozen 4 or Championship b/c that would be so much fun to watch.
